A journey in time, starting in 1970. Un viaje en el tiempo a partir de 1970

The first letter I wrote my then future mother in law was dated 5th September 1967. Her son had brought me a ring and decided that we were engaged, I had to let her know that we really were engaged, she would not believe him. Reading that letter today I am surprised at the maturity of the girl that I was and also at the fact that my mother in law kept the letter, together with all the others I wrote her, and recently gave them back to me, so that my children could read them, as part of a big bundle that spanned some 30 years of our lives. A year later we got married and after another year decided to travel to Europe to try our luck. As at the time it was cheaper than flying and we had plenty of time we bought return passages in the Augustus, an Italian liner.

La primera carta que le escribí a la que era entonces mi futura suegra está fechada el 5 de septiembre de 1967. Su hijo me había traído un anillo y había decidido que estabamos comprometidos. Tenía que confirmarle a mi suegra que estábamos comprometidos porque a él no le creía. Me sorprende al leer esa carta hoy en día la madurez de la chica que yo era entonces además de el hecho de que mi suegra haya guardado la carta junto con todas las demás que le he escrito y recientemente me las haya devuelto, para que las lean mis hijos, en una gran pila que abarca unos 30 años de nuestras vidas. Nos casamos un año más tarde y al año siguiente decidimos irnos a Europa a probar suerte. Como en ese entonces era más barato que volar y nosotros teníamos tiempo de sobra, sacamos pasajes de ida y vuelta en el Augustus, un barco de una línea italiana.
